Salesbuildr vs DeskDirector: Client Portal or MSP Sales Platform?
MSPs sometimes compare Salesbuildr and DeskDirector because both put something in front of the client. They solve different problems, though. This is a plain side-by-side, based on each vendor’s public pages as of 17 October 2026.
The short answer: DeskDirector is a client portal and service platform: tickets, forms, approvals and live chat for your clients and your team. Salesbuildr is an MSP sales platform: quoting, proposals, online acceptance and the handoff into your PSA. If your problem is the service experience, look at DeskDirector. If it is how quotes get built, approved and turned into contracts, look at Salesbuildr. Plenty of MSPs need both.
Side by Side
| Salesbuildr | DeskDirector | |
|---|---|---|
| Main job | Quoting, proposals and sales workflow for MSPs | Client portal, ticketing, forms, SOPs and automation |
| Quotes | Built in Salesbuildr from your catalog and distributor pricing, with templates and approval rules | Shows quotes made in QuoteWerks; contacts with the Quotes permission can view and approve them |
| What the client sees | Branded proposal with online acceptance; a client storefront is a Premium add-on | A branded portal for tickets, requests, approvals and live chat |
| PSA integrations | Autotask, ConnectWise Manage and HaloPSA, natively | ConnectWise and Autotask; other PSAs through custom integrations |
| Other integrations | 50+ distributors, HubSpot and a public API | Microsoft Teams, Power Automate, QuoteWerks; the ConnectWise Sell integration is deprecated |
| Growth | Whitespace analysis of service gaps per client (Advanced plan and up) | No upsell or whitespace analysis found on its public pages |
Where They Overlap: Quotes in Front of the Client
The overlap is narrow. DeskDirector integrates with QuoteWerks: when a quote is saved or printed in QuoteWerks, DeskDirector receives the quote and its QuoteValet link, and clients with the right permission can see and approve it in the portal. DeskDirector also lists ConnectWise Sell (Quosal), but its own help center marks that integration as deprecated.
In Salesbuildr the proposal itself is the client-facing document. The client opens it, accepts online, and the accepted quote goes back to your PSA: the opportunity and quote in Autotask, the opportunity and agreement in ConnectWise, or a sales order in HaloPSA. See what your client sees for the acceptance side.
When DeskDirector Fits
- You want a branded portal where clients log tickets, fill in forms and approve requests.
- You want SOPs and internal processes, including HR, in the same place as your service desk.
- You already quote in QuoteWerks and want those quotes visible in the client portal.
When Salesbuildr Fits
- Your quotes take too long, look different per salesperson or contain pricing mistakes.
- You want distributor pricing, templates and approval rules in the quote itself.
- You want an accepted quote to update Autotask, ConnectWise or HaloPSA without re-keying.
- You want to find upsell gaps in your existing clients’ contracts.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is DeskDirector a quoting tool?
Not primarily. DeskDirector is a client portal and service platform for ticketing, forms, approvals, live chat and SOPs. It can show quotes made in QuoteWerks to your clients, who can view and approve them in the portal. Salesbuildr is where MSPs build the quote and proposal in the first place.
Can I use Salesbuildr and DeskDirector together?
Yes, they cover different jobs. DeskDirector handles the service side your clients use every day; Salesbuildr handles quoting, proposals, acceptance and the handoff into your PSA.
Which PSAs do Salesbuildr and DeskDirector support?
Salesbuildr integrates natively with Autotask, ConnectWise Manage and HaloPSA. DeskDirector lists ConnectWise and Autotask, and its integrations FAQ says it is not pursuing native integrations with other PSAs such as HaloPSA, offering custom integrations instead.
